Overview of My Assessment Scores
THE ISTE NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY STANDARD AND PERFORMACE INDICATORS FOR TEACHER.On November 6, 2009 I read the ISTE NETS and performance indicators for teachers. I feel comfortable with all the following performance indicators:
1. Facilitating and inspiring student learning and creativity. 1.A,1.B, 1.C
2. Designing and developing digital-age learning experiences and assessments. 2.A, 2.B, 2.C *2.D (*I need to do more)
3. Modeling digital–age work and learning. 3.A, 3.B, 3.C, 3.D
4. Promoting and modeling digital citizenship and responsibility. 4.A, 4.B, 4.C, 4.D
5. Engage in professional growth and leadership. 5.A, 5.B, 5.C, 6.D
I have participated in many professional development programs but I don’t perceive myself as a leader in this area. I assist co-workers when asked to do so but I have not done any formal training for others in this area.
Q. Do you have the Opportunity to implement these standards in your classroom?
Not really.
It is difficult to implement these standards in my classroom due to curriculum standards we have to teach. We are currently in trimesters and each core subject has a pacing guide to follow. We must be on the same page as other teachers teaching the same subject. I barely have enough time to cover the content material that is required by the state. Creative assignments that require high order thinking skills are very difficult for my special education students and require more time to complete. Because of the time constraints I am limited in this area. I wish I could incorporate more of these types of assignments in my classes because the students seem to enjoy them.

I found some difficulty in scoring myself because I knew some things in most areas but not necessarily all things. I know how to explore and find things in software programs. I know how to problem solve and work to figure things out. I need to work on my skills using Microsoft Excel and Access programs. I never use Access and hardly use Excel. I have taken basic courses and professional development for Microsoft programs but if you don’t use it you forget it. These programs are update regularly (like Word) and I have to learn how to use the new version. I am not experienced in creating PDF files and downloading videos from cameras, and creating DVD’s from that source. I have overcome the fear of using computers and have worked hard to learn new skills through professional development at RESA and online web seminars. Learn Port helped me complete hours I needed for highly qualified status. I completed 36 online classes in core subject areas. Listed below are the professional development classes I have taken.

NCRTEC online survey tool.
Because our school is running by Trimesters our time is limited to teach the state standards. We are all using subject pacing guides for all core classes and must adhere to the time frame that we developed for each core subject. Here are my scores on the learning with technology profile tool.

My scores are not as high as I would like them to be in regards to students’ role in their learning process. Inquiry based instruction is something I think our high school needs to work on across the board. In my opinion No Child Left Behind has hindered students’ learning more than it has helped. Trimesters allow students to take more classes but they must learn as much information in a shorter period of time and students are not used to this type of rigorous learning style. I think Michigan schools are leaving lots of children behind and it is the fault of making teachers teach to a test instead of teaching students the importance of learning skills they will need for the future. I answered these questions based on my restrictions within the amount of curriculum I have to teach and the lessons plans the district/ departments has developed for us. My scores are based on that not necessarily on the way I would like to teach.
Skills I would like to develop.
I have worked hard to stay abreast on learning technology skills. I would like to learn more about how to create and use PDF files. I took an in-service training at RESA on PDF’s but didn’t learn much on how to create them. I don’t have the software to explore and use on my own. I also need to improve on video transfer from cameras and creating DVD’s.

On November 11, 2009 I signed up for Enhancing Your Curriculum Through the use of the Internet (35 hours). I completed it on November 13, 2009. I am currently taking another LearnPort online course called Academy for the 21st Century Technology B1.1 . Technology is always changing and because of this I will continue to explore and find ways to keep up with these changes so I can be a better tech savvy teacher.
